We all have our connection to the game.
I still remember numerous rounds with my grandfather at Bryan Park Golf Course in Greensboro, North Carolina. It’s where I learned to play and hit numerous balls on the range while he worked (after retiring from his career with Food Lion). I still have his first set of clubs, Ping Eye 2s, along with the last set of clubs he ever purchased. He got me into the game and helped me developed my deep love for all things related to golf. I remember the first time I beat him, one of his first rounds back after a knee replacement, and it was the only time I beat him until Alzheimer’s came into the picture.
And once it took over, I knew that the day was coming when we would walk off that green for the last time. It finally happened, and as fate would have it, when we walked off number 18 of the Players Course at Bryan Park for the final time. Our final round together, the final putts, the final time for me to walk back to the fringe and collect his clubs he had left behind.
I continue to play, albeit not as good as my grandfather did, and I remember him with every round I log. My goal is to raise my kids to develop the same passion and love for the game he instilled in me. Longleaf Golf gives me the outlet to share my passion for the game of golf with all interested in reading. I hope you enjoy this content as much as I enjoy creating & sharing.
